For those of you that have an account with Ancestry (www.ancestry.com), you may find it beneficial to take advantage of an update in the new profiles that allow you to now link your social media profiles and websites to your Ancestry account. This new feature gives members new options to connect with each other outside of using the Ancestry messaging system which can be an issue if you do not log into Ancestry very often.
To do this, simply follow these steps:
Click on your profile at the top right of your Ancestry home page screen and from the drop down menu, click “Your Profile”
On the right hand side of your profile screen, there is an “Edit” button. If you choose this option, you can then click on the “Contact” tab at the top of the window that pops up and add your links. Alternatively, there is a link button with a similar option to get to the same place.
Add any social media or website contact information that you would like to share. For your Facebook profile, go to Facebook and click on your own profile and copy/past the URL found in your browser’s navigation bar.
Click “Done” which will save your new profile contact info. You will now have clickable links available to those visiting your profile page looking to contact you.
This new option can be especially helpful when trying to connect with DNA matches on Ancestry! Be sure to check the profile of those you are looking to connect with to see if they have added links to their profile.
