Blackstone Reaches $4.7 Billion Deal to Buy Ancestry.com

It was reported by Bloomberg.com today that Blackstone Group has reached a deal to take 75% ownership of Ancestry.com Inc. for $4.7 billion. According to Wikipedia, Blackastone Group Inc. is “an American multinational private equity alternative investment management and financial services firm based in Midtown Manhattan, New York City.”

Ancestry has not yet made any announcements nor has there been any blog posts about this deal by Ancestry. Interest in Ancestry by Blackstone appears to be primarily based on medical research at this time which may have an impact on the DNA offerings by Ancestry.com. Whether this is a positive or negative impact remains to be seen.
